Hey, I had old car wheels just collecting dust but now have them on rotation! Wondering if something like this could be on the market, an electric powered hub you can mount to a wall to show off or do something with an old bent or cracked wheel. I slapped together this proof of concept friction drive unit using a pneumatic shop stool, $20 motor kit and Milwaukee battery. Sorry no video, I do have one up on YouTube though. Thoughts?
That’s sweet! I just recently mounted some wheels in the shop to display. No movement though.
Give us the breakdown…looks to be some RC components.
Nice! I figured lots of car guys have a wheel mounted up somewhere. Yea, for the drive roller I used a Traxxas transmitter steering wheel that has grippy foam to turn the lip on the base of the stool. It was what was handy and worked well. Basically it’s a 300lbs rated pneumatic stool flipped upside down with the seat cushion and wheels removed. Then some aluminum angle for an adjustable motor mount. It’s variable speed, can turn about 1rpm at its slowest and about 6.5-7rpm with the motor maxed out at 60rpm. It can be noisy being friction drive but I usually have music cranked up in the shop (the hustle standard, you already know) and don’t really hear it. I think you could make a much cooler and efficient version (more mechanical/rigid) and I’d be so down to see that!
