On the Covid Coupe foxbody mustang build I wanted to shorten the front a-arms over an inch to get the stance I wanted on the 18 inch wheels, also to have that tucked look when in drag mode and running skinnies. There are some aftermarket a-arms for mustangs that have adjustable hiems and can be shortened up to an inch but I didn’t want to run hiems for several reason, mainly noise and durability. I decided to make a fixture to make shorter or longer a-arms if needed. Took some measurements and drew it up on the plasma table. Nothing too crazy, just a way to hold the ball joint and the mounts on the a-arm. I designed it to have the ball joint section slide in and out once the a-arm was cut apart.
The parts of the a-arm that mount to the K-member are not the same width so I had to use a 1/4 inch spacer that could be moved depending on what a-arm I was modifying.
I noted it on the fixture for reference.
Then I cut the a-arms apart, re notched the tubes and slid the fixture to the desired length of the new a-arm. TIG welded everything and added some gussets for a little extra strength.
